Whilst the King Cobra is not the most poisonous snake in the World it is the World’s largest poisonous snake. Billed as ‘the most exciting snake show in the World’, the King Cobra snake show in Chiang Mai is certainly a popular attraction.
The King Cobra snake show is very well presented and the excellent commentary in both Thai and English is both highly informative about the King Cobra and some of the other types of snake in the show as well as being a great deal of fun. The snake handlers put the King Cobra and other snakes through their paces encouraging them to attack and then catching them by hand and even or even with their mouth. The highlight of the show is perhaps a mouth to mouth kiss with a King Cobra. During the show we attended, one of the handlers was bitten by a Water Snake, fortunately for the handler, a non poisonous snake. The effervescent commentator assured us that this was an accident and not part of the show and looking at the handler’s face we are sure she was telling the truth.
At the end of the snake show there is a demonstration of how snake venom is collected and of course, for the not faint hearted, an opportunity to be photographed with a King Cobra wrapped round your neck.
The King Cobra Snake Show is open daily from 8am – 5pm, with shows almost continuous. Admission fee is 200 Baht.
