“A must see in Chiang Mai”
5 of 5 starsReviewed December 1, 2012
Serene with panoramic views on a clear day, the best temple in Chiang Mai.

Best way to visit is by private Taxi, which should cost around 1200 Bhat, and should take you there and back, and wait in air conditioned comfort. For those on a budget there is the red bus option at around 500 Bhat (see xe.com for local currency). Also at the temple is the Jade factory which is also worth looking at,

There is now a cable car to take you to the top, but still interesting to climb the steps at least once.

I am waiting for my next trip

This was my second trip to Thailand, and my second visit to the Orchid Jade Factory. I usually purchase one per of earrings per trip. During the first trip (January 2008), I found a pair of small lavender jade earrings that were just exquisite. It had an oval lavender jade with amethysts on the each side, and small diamond chips above and below the stone. The assistant showed me a matching ring, and boy, was it beautiful. The price was reasonable for the two items, and I felt very confident with my purchase. During the second trip, our tour stopped again at the Orchid Jade Factory, and I purchased a lovely 18k gold elephant on a chain. The jade elephants were a little too big for me, and I found an 18k elephant enhanced with sapphires and diamonds. I have a lovely remembrance of my second trip to Thailand and my elephant ride! The store setting was very nice. The owner grows award winning coffee, and they offer you the best iced Thai coffee ever. Yum. On both tours we were taken to another large jewelry store in Bangkok with a location in Chiang Mai. The pressure to purchase was unbelievable. You were assigned a person as soon as you entered the store, and they would not let you alone. I went to the ladies' room, and the woman was waiting for me when I exited. At the Orchid Jade Factory, the sales assistants are very knowledgeable and not overbearing. I give them an A+ rating.
