I must admit that I was a little uncomfortable about the thought of playing with man-eating tigers.(I was picturing a tragic YouTube video about crazy tourists). However, my husband was insistent about visiting the Tiger Kingdom and I am happy that he was the victor in that discussion!
The Tiger Kingdom is only 15 minutes from Chiang Mai, so it is easy to get to.
When we arrived we enjoyed a nice lunch while watching the tigers playing. (I am a pretty cautious eater when it comes to restaurants outside of the hotels. This was a good, clean restaurant with a huge variety of different foods. They also have a buffet if you have an appetite.)
You have to pre-purchase the tigers that you want to see. We chose the smallest and the largest package.
They take you to the smallest tigers first. There are a few different tigers in the area, so they take you around to visit them all. (each one is generally at a different energy level). We didn't pay for the photographer; but the staff were happy to take pictures for us using our camera. We went in the afternoon and were delighted that the kitties had a lot of energy. One even crawled right up on my lap and hung out for a bit. The staff are very attentive and make sure that both the cats and the tourists are behaved.
After 15 minutes (which is plenty for photos) we went to see the big cats. The staff instruct you about how to approach and touch the cats. These ones didn't climb on our laps (thank goodness) but we were able to pat and hug them.
We got some AMAZING photos of our visit. Yes, I agree with other reviewers that this would never be allowed in our country. Perhaps we are crazy to have done it; but I loved it and would absolutely do it again!
