I volunteered at the Maetaman Elephant camp through Friends for Asia. There is an elephant show where the mahouts get the elephants to show what they are able to do. The elephant painting is pretty cool and you can buy the paintings afterwards. All proceeds go towards the camp, I believe what they're doing is noble. You can also ride an elephant through the jungle, go ox-cart riding, go bamboo rafting, and see where they make the paper. You can also walk through the camp and look at all the elephants in the camp. The food is pretty good at the restaurant. I tell everybody to go to this camp when you pick elephant trekking because i think its worth it and its a great experience.
Note: I've seen the mahouts train the elephants to draw paintings and there is nothing abusive about it. They train them like if your training a dog. They show the elephants how they are to hold the paintbrush with their trunks and give them treats everytime they attempt to until they finally have got the hang of it. They train the elephants to follow commands.
