ROME, MARCH 7, 2011 I’d never been to Rome, so when a friend suggested that we meet there, I jumped at the idea. I was overwhelmed by the sight of the Colosseum, despite having seen pictures and reading about competitions between gladiators there over the years. I listened to the audio guide and spent hours conjuring up images of the past. The experience far exceeded my expectations.

Oh, come on...I don't have to tell you to see the Coloseum. You know you have to!
It is really neat to come around the corner and then all the sudden it's there. You start wiggling in your seats or jumping up and down. You've waited so long and here it is!
Do be careful because some people have to wait a long while to get into the tours. Some people say they are not worth entering but I really wish I had. I love to see that sort of stuff. Some people things it's expensive. Ummm you're in Rome... splurge! If you pay over $1000 to get there with airfare why not spend $20 to go see the inside of one of the most famous ruins in the world?!? Also, don't forget to see my Coloseum Warnings!!...More 723 reviews...Read More!
SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK, TANZANIA, JAN. 28, 2011 Finally, at age 53, I fulfilled a life- long dream, to take a safari. We were fortunate to see something that not everyone sees: lions in a tree on the Serengeti at sunset. We were as close as the picture looks, maybe 10 feet away. Breathtaking- ly beautiful.

ROATÁN, HONDURAS, FEB. 10, 2011 I was visiting a friend’s fam- ily in Honduras and went to Roatán as a side trip. Leaving the main- land of Honduras by boat brought me closer to the Garifuna culture. It was midmorning, and I was just taking a leisurely walk. There weren’t that many people around. The tranquillity of this landscape is self-explanatory.

CHIANG MAI, THAILAND, JAN. 6, 2011 This is a picture of me taken by my husband, Thomas, at an elephant sanctuary where individuals ride bareback, wash and feed the elephants. This is a sanctuary where elephants are being rescued from harsh abuse and to preserve them. I would never have guessed how sensitive elephants can be. Mammals are simple creatures, especially the ones that have not acquired lan- guage; people should listen to them more, then maybe the world could be a better place.

Fantastic adventure, I would recommend this trip to anyone staying in the Chiang Mai area. It was a full day adventure worth every penny. Very well organized from start to finish.
I would recommend light clothing and sandels and don't forget your hat and sunscreen!

NEAR TIMBUKTU, MALI, JAN. 8, 2011 I went to Mali on a group trip for the New Year to explore and to learn while making an odyssey with a woman and her friends who are building a school in Nienebale village. One of our destinations was the Fes- tival au Desert, near Timbuktu. Even though the United States and French governments warned against travel to the region,we were determined to experience the great festival and camp in the Sahara. Many Tuaregs came to the festival on camels to share their song, dance and sell their crafts. Great bands per- formed at night. On the final day there were camel races. This image of camels on a dune while small planes fly overhead jux- taposes two forms of desert transportation.
