Horticulture launched the largest changing color lotus plant as one of the highlights innovative horticulture
Mr. Upatham Nisitsukcharoen,(left) Director of the Project Management Office of the International Horticultural Exposition Royal Flora Ratchaphruek 2011 and Dr. Suwit Chaikiatiyod, (right) Director of the Horticulture Research Institute, Department of Agriculture, Ministry of Agriculture, introduced the one innovation of horticulture developed by the Thai – the largest color changing lotus in the world. This large lotus had the capability to change colors beginning from the first bloom to a total of 5 different colors.
Interested parties can visit and admire the lotus at the International Horticultural Exposition Royal Flora Ratchaphruek 2011 held on the 14th December 2011 to 14th March 2012 (instead of 9th November 2011 to 15 February 2012) at the Royal Rajapruek Park. This lotus is categorized under the same group as the giant lotus of Australia. Some has been known to have the capability to change the colors of the flowers to as much as 5 different colors and are considered very rare. The Lotus Research Dept. has develop it as a thoroughbred. When cross breeding is done a total of 5 colors is achieved, white, light blue, pink, blue and purple. The flower of the lotus will change color after maturity starting from white in the early days and gradually darkens everyday till finally the color changes to fuchsia. The flowers will bloom for up to 6 days. The best time to admire this is between 09:00 to 14:00 because the colors are fresh and large
