2 Health and Safety Tips

In general, Chiang Mai is a safe city to travel and live. Yet, there are some tips that could be taken as precaution so that you can travel and enjoy your holiday without any hassles. It is not safe to drink tap water in Chiang Mai. Refining or boiling is needed before drinking. Even though Chiang Mai is malaria free, if you plan to go trekking in the forests, then it is advisable to take prophylactic drug. Some vaccinations against tetanus, hepatitis, and salmonella infections are also recommended in particular if you travel to undeveloped part of the country.

Like other countries, there are pickpockets in particular in crowded or touristy areas. Keep your belongings with you at all time. Touting can be seen in main tourist destinations. They could be some sort of scam or commissioned by merchandisers. You will be excessively charged for the price of what you buy to cover the commission. Refuse them so you won’t lose your time and money.

Credit and debit cards should be used at only well-established and professional outlets. They should not be placed anywhere out of sight and avoid carrying a big amount of cash with you. Drugs are not tolerated in Thailand, which include opium, marijuana, amphetamines or yaa-baa. The punishment of trading or possessing is severe.

When you buy gemstones, to make sure what you buy is authentic, check the government's JFC seal are proved of authentic quality standard which should be affixed in front of JFC member outlets. The JFC logo represents a ruby ring with the names TGJTA and Jewel Fest Club.
