The Hmong Hill Tribe Village at Doi Pui is located on Doi Suthep, within the boundaries of the Doi Suthep - Pui National Park and is approached from Suthep Road which passes Chiang Mai Zoo before beginning the ascent to Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep and the Phuping Palace. The turn off this road is about 4 km beyond the temple.
Hmong Doi Pui is the closest Hill Tribe Village to Chiang Mai and because of this it has become somewhat commercial with many stalls selling not just Hmong handicrafts but a whole range of imported products as well.
Many of the villagers are dressed in traditional Hmong costume and you have the opportunity to see inside a genuine Hmong house. The village boasts a museum with many interesting items of Hmong culture and history.
In the past, the Hmong were great growers of the Opium Poppy and today you can view a very small plantation of poppies kept only to show the visitors. The Hmong, at least in Doi Pui, no longer harvest the opium poppy.
