I am very happy with this factory refurbished nuvi 255. I got it for a great price. The unit looks brand new. The nuvi is very easy to use- works right out of the box with out even consulting the manual. Using it is very intuitive.

You do need to obtain a proper USB cable to update the unit with your computer. It is an easily obtained USB- miniUSB cable that is commonly used for cameras, etc. The first map update is free. Updating the map from start to finish did take a little less than 3 hours for me.

Excellent product even though refurbished. Factory sealed in box with all the instructions and attachments. Absolutely worth the price and Garmin has a great name. My son was thrilled!

Item is just like new, i don't know what could be different, besides the price. Takes a long time (multiple nights) to get the whole map update, but worked out fine, just had to use it a day, then hook it up to the computer until it lost battery power then do it again the next night and so on, i think it took 3 nights all together, but it works like a charm in the car.

This is a great deal and getting better. It has everything you need and the price is fantastic.
When you think of how much a map update is, you're getting the gps for about $25. Easy to use. Intuitive. I've heard some complaints about the voice. I have no problems understanding it.
It will occasionally struggle in a neighborhood that is a maze of streets, but recalculates very quickly and will get you back on course.

I bought this Garmin to replace a 205 model I had that I dropped. This refurbished model is like brand new, works perfectly. Unlike other reviewers, I didn't have any problem registering the device and when I connected the device to their website to check for updates I found that the maps installed were already the most recent available from Garmin, so there was no need to update. I love Garmin Navigators.

great deal with the price tag. I was apprehensive to buy a refurbished gps, as mentioned in some of the other reviews that the maps could be old and the first free map update does not apply to refurbished products. I took a chance based on 1-2 reviews which said that the free update does apply to refurbished products. The maps were from nov 2009 out of the box, but the first free map update feature worked seamlessly. I'm happy with the overall purchase.

I knew what a garmin was before I purchased it, but I was not sure if it was a speaking one or not because the price was so low. When I got it not only was it a speaking one; I also was able to upgrade it at the garmin website. I travel a lot and this came in handy.

I've used many GPSs and this is the first one that has everything I was looking for. It is small, says street names, gives alternate routes (to avoid toll roads, highways, etc) and is easy to use. Buy this product. It's fantastic. The only problem is the suction cup, but that varies from car to car.

Perfect so far..., February 14, 2011

After hours of research, I boiled my selection down to the Garmin Nuvi 250 or 255. Ultimately purchasing the 255 because it was offered at a good price for a "refurbished" model.
My primary goal was to buy a GPS system that would allow us to navigate Ireland and UK, and initially, the Tom-Tom Start seemed to be the one. However, it was exclusively made for ROI and UK and would be useless in the US. It lacked a SD slot. The Garmin 250/255 both came preloaded with US & Canadian maps, so we could use it here, and with the purchase of a ROI & UK SD card, walla, we are now able to navigate through the highways and byways of the Emerald Isle and England.
The ease of operation is beyond simple. If you have an index finger and can spell, you're in!
Perfect price and exact match to our needs.

I bought this as a gift for a young driver. The unit came marked as refurbished but looked to be in mint condition. After a map update and charge it was ready to go. It does what it is supposed to do. I would recommend it as an affordable starter GPS. If you have more money to spend, then I'd upgrade to lifetime maps, larger screen, and voice activation.

Got this for our directionally challanged 21 year old daughter. She didn't even read the instructions, and already has it figured out!

This is just the perfect road companion: easy to use, intuitive, practical, efficient and reliable. I can only recommend it, and it can be customized for most major languages on earth, and maps from around the globe too.

Garmin Rocks, January 25, 2011

I ordered this Garmin and took it on its maiden voyage to find an attorney's office across town. It did very well, but its only drawback was the annoying north Baltimore accent. I switched to the British accent and that proved to be better, but there is a strange dropping off of the last syllable in the last word. Like a record being played in slow motion at the wrong speed. I LOVE that it announces the name of the streets when it tells you when you have to turn. Makes navigating a lot of fun. Just wish I could change the voice. I had owned an earlier version Garmin that was given to me as a gift, and it was such a great device, I only considered Garmin when researching a new one as I was so pleased with my older one and the price was great, better than expected.

Fun part is when I was walking around, I could also search and find restaurants and stores.

Very compact and easy to use and transport. I also bought the optional leather case offered by another vendor and it is convenient and protects the GPS. I do wish that there was a compact case that would hold the unit, holder and cord.
