9.00am - 9.30am Hot Springs Stop at Mae Kachan Natural Hot Springs in Wieng Pa Pao district. Apart from the springs there are restaurants, a market selling flowers, and fresh fruit and veg, and a small bazaar selling hill tribes handicrafts and souvenirs. Not a hot springs for bathing but it is possible to boil an egg! (there are plenty of willing egg vendors!).

11.00am - 11.30am White Temple Wat Rong Khun - The White Temple of Chiang Rai - You may have been to many temples in Thailand but this one is unique, and highly memorable. Its exterior is completely white, and there are many artistic flourishes to enjoy. A masterpiece, still in the creation process, but with plenty to enjoy now. more info on the Chiang Rai White Temple...

12.00am - 13.00pm LunchTasty Thai Lunch at the Sriwan restaurant in Chiang Saen. This intimate riverside restaurant is situated on the banks of the Mekong river. Nice views and a nice place to dine, and rest, ready for the next part of the tour. (Pepsi not included!)
Chedi After lunch make a brief stop at the ancient Wat Chedi Luang in Chiang Saen town.
Golden Triangle Next head to the famous Golden Triangle. The point where the three countries, Laos, Burma and Thailand meet. Riverside view of all three countries.
13.30pm - 14.30pm Laos Boat Trip Next up a fun boat trip to Laos. No passport needed.
From Chiang Mai Citylife Magazine ... "In Laos, (actually an island off Laos called Done Xao) it's shop till you drop in a muddy market, where if whisky, smokes, handicrafts and textiles were any cheaper you could pay with the brass buttons from your shirt."
14.30pm - 15.15pm Opium Museum Opium Museum - Hall of Opium The lavishly created Hall of Opium combines a museum on the history of opium and it's impact, with an information centre for research and extension education on opium, opiates and other narcotics. (Please note that the Hall of Opium is closed on Mondays. The tour will stop at the Old Opium Museum on Mondays instead, and we will charge 100 Baht less per person.)

15.30pm - 16.30pm Burmese Border Finally head to the Northern Most point of Thailand, Mae Sai, which is the border crossing for Burma / Myanmar. There are markets / stalls / shops on both side of the border and it seems to be bustling every day (more so at weekends and holidays). - If you wish to, there is time to cross the border into the Burmese Town, Tachilek. It does involve going through the immigration routine and paying a fee both getting out of Thailand, and getting into Burma (these fees are not included in the price of the tour - allow around 20 - 30 US Dollars or equivalent). It has some interesting (mostly Chinese produced) items for sale at the market. If they are not interesting they are definitely cheap, bargain hard! It also has the distinct feeling of being a different country. - The guide will cross the border with you, if you choose not to cross, and others in the group do, that is fine too. The driver will wait at the vehicle on the Thai side. - Please note that if you do this you will be officially leaving the country and will be given a new 15 Day Visa when you re-enter Thailand. Please make sure that this does not affect your travel plans.
Optional 15 min Additional stop at Cabbages and Condoms Restaurant Wieng Pa Pao. This is only possible if the day is not running too late. It is intended as a toilet and drinks stop. (drinks are not included in the tour price - if you need to stop for the toilet at anytime please just tell the guide) The reason this is included is that we like to support organisations that do such good work.
