I took several tours from Chiang Mai during my visit and this was the best by a long shot. While so many are centered around selling tourists tacky souvineers, the elephant camp was centered on an enjoyable participatory experience.
The elephants seem happy with their lot but how would we know if they were not. This situation -- where the animals get to roam a bit -- is far superior to other spots I visited in Thailand where elephants were typically kept chained with one foot (yes, one foot) of slack.
