The evening at the “Olive Tree” was fun. The group was small (7) and everybody was congenial and the Dining Out Group is much more than only dining. The socializing is a big part of it.

Chiang Mai is heaven for many expats who come here to live or retire. The restaurant, which can take a bit of finding, sells outrageously large, incredibly delicious sandwiches, along with many other dishes including pork chops, pizzas, salads. But if you enjoy your meat you have to try their corned beef sandwich. The owner of Pickles has for a long time been making his own corned beef, which has become so popular he now sells it in bulk. Not only is the beef perfect, but the portion would make any man with a big appetite happy. They also serve beers and other drinks and have cable TV. Directions:

From Chang Phuek Gate go north on Chang Phuek Road towards the Super Highway and go past the Mercure Hotel that will be on your left. Turn right on the first soi past the hotel. Go to the first cross street and turn left. Follow until you see a street on your left coming in to make a “T” intersection. Pickles is about 40 meters past that on the right. I suggest turning left at the “T” junction and parking there and walking over. Pickles is on a narrow street that makes it difficult to park.
