Tab Tao Cave
Can be found 3 kilometres to the left of the Chiang Mai -Fang road at about km.122. Although smaller than the better known Chiang Dao Cave, Tab Tao cave matches it in beauty. Inside the cave there are a number of Buddha images. The cave is divided into two smaller caves called Pa Khao and Pan Jek. At the cave's entrance are a Buddhist Monastery and a pavilion.

The Pillar of the City

The city pillar was re-erected when King Mengrai founded Chiang Mai in 1296. Now located in front of Wat Chedi Luang and enshrined in a small Thai chapel, the pillar is made of teak The Sao Inthakin or city pillar celebration is held annually in May.

Phuping Palace
This palace is four kilometres past Wat Phra Thad Doi Suthep and was built by the current Royal Family in 1961. The Royal Family is sometimes in residence during the crisp winter season. Inside the palace compound are gardens of exceptional roses and other temperate flowers. Open daily from 08.30 to 16.30, except when members of the Royal Family are in residence. From here about three kilometres, is A Hmong Village at Doi Pui, from where it is possible to see the top of Doi Inthanon Mountain to the south on a clear day.

Nong Bua Pra Chao Luang

Is a wetland in Cherng Doi subdistrict, Doi Saket. Covering almost 20 hectares, this natural reservoir was once famous for the large numbers of wildfowl that could be found there. Sadly, the natural swamp dried up but it is now being restored as an artificial reservoir, replanted with 54 varieties of lotus, so that it can become a new tourist attraction.

Huay Hong Krai

His Majesty The King Founded The Huay Hong Krai Educational Development Centre in 1982.
Its original purpose was to offer educational courses that were appropriate to the northern river catchments and watershed areas. The centre also aims to promote forestry and agricultural techniques, that will preserve those catchments for posterity, especially in livestock raising, fisheries, consolidation through planting grasses, and conservation work around Huay Hong Krai. This is a fine place to both enjoy and study nature. The centre can be found 23 kilometres from Chiang Mai on the Chiang Rai highway. Turn right and continue a further 1 km. to reach the development centre.
