Enjoyed the temple tour very much, well organized and most convenient in its organization. The guide was very knowledgeable and spoke English well. Driver did well and was very attentive, too.

Great trip, didn't last as long as I expected though, the trip ended around 2.30pm, so not really a full day tour! Also the temples shut before the sun sets so didn't get to see the sunset over the temple as stated in the itinerary. Other than that great trip!

I absolutely loved the tour, but the tour operator was terrible. First of all, the headquarters for the tour operator is based in Viet Nam, not Cambodia. The telephone numbers that are supplied are for Viet Nam, not Cambodia. This is not very helpful. I had called to confirm, but the Vietnamese operator did not understand English. So even though I repeatedly told her that my tours were for Sunday and Monday, she told the Cambodian supplier that the tours were for Monday and Tuesday. Needless to say, no one showed up for my Sunday tour. So after spending a fortune calling Viet Nam to find out why my tour was not starting, I was finally connected to the Cambodian supplier. Viator would be better served providing the Cambodian telephone number directly. And quite frankly, the tour is not a full day. It is not possible to do a full day because the itinerary does not warrant a full day, not to mention that it is too hot and humid in May to stay out that long. This should be listed as a half-day tour, and priced as one also.

Angkor Wat Ancient Temples Full-Day Tour from Siem Reap

Angkor, Cambodia – Angkor Wat is home to the world’s most fascinating archaeological mystery: Why do images of women dominate the largest religious monument on Earth?

The Khmer temple of Angkor Wat: an ancient model of heaven on Earth.

In the 12th Century AD, the Khmer Empire ruled most of what is now Southeast Asia. As Europe struggled in the Dark Ages, King Suryavarman II built the massive edifice of Angkor Wat at the height of his empire’s glory.

But within 200 years, the powerful Khmer civilization mysteriously collapsed. Theories about the cause of its downfall abound but nothing is definite. You see, aside from limited temple inscriptions no written records of the great Khmer Empire survived its demise. The “best” written account available is from the Chinese diplomat Zhou Daguan, who recorded his journey to Suvannabhum — the legendary Khmer “Land of Gold” — 150 years after Angkor Wat was completed.

Centuries passed. Dense jungle swallowed the magnificent Khmer temples and cities. Western scholars had never even learned that the great Khmer race ever existed.

But in the 19th Century, French explorers rediscovered the ruins, initiating 150 years of intense scholarship that continues today. Yet we believe that they have missed the most important keys to the puzzle, hidden in plain sight…

People worldwide instantly recognize Angkor Wat.

Visit Cambodia's magnificent Angkor temple complex on this private full-day Angkor Wat tour from Siem Reap. In the morning, visit the Roluos Temple Group, then return to Siem Reap for lunch. In the afternoon, spend two and a half hours touring majestic Angkor Wat before climbing up to Phnom Bakheng to enjoy a magnificent sunset over Angkor and its surroundings.

Few, however, realize that this massive temple protects an extraordinary treasure unlike any building on Earth: Inside its walls we find a royal portrait gallery with 1,796 women realistically rendered in stone.

For 150 years, scholars have dismissed the women as ”wives to entertain the king in heaven” or ornaments “to decorate bare sandstone walls”.

Our growing body of research indicates that these women served much more profound roles than mere decoration. And perhaps these women were the driving force behind the civilization itself.
